The Colts – Never No More The Colts hailed from Bakersfield, California. They formed when three of the group members went to Los Angeles to attend L.A. City College. Their best known hit is “Adorable,” which was made famous by The Drifters.

The Saints – I’ll Let You Slide The Saints recorded for the Wigwam label. Their releases are very hard to find and trade for as much as $4,000. The group also has a track titled “I’ve Been Taken For A Ride” on Kent’s CD For Dancers Only. Listen and sound off!

Ritchie Valens, Buddy Holly Big Bopper Die In Plane Crash Today

Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper, three legendary singers died in a plane crash today (February 3, 1959) near Clear Lake, Iowa, while traveling to Moorhead, Minnesota to perform a concert.

Holly, 22, had chartered the plane because he was fed up with the miserable conditions on the “The Winter Dance Party” tour. The conditions were so dire that Holly’s drummer Carl Bunch was frostbitten in his feet while on the tour.

The CufflinxDootone Records was busy promoting the breakout single “Guided Missiles” by The Cufflinx on this day (December 29, 1956).

Dootone was a legendary Los Angeles-based record label that was owned by Walter “Dootsie” Williams.

Among the acts Dootsie recorded were Johnny “Poppa John” Creach (of Jefferson Starship fame), Redd Foxx, The Medallions, Don Julian & The Meadowlarks and The Penguins were some of the acts who passed through Dootsie’s doors.

On December 9, 1981 Sonny Til of The Orioles died at the age of 56.

The Orioles and The Ravens are considered the pioneering R&B groups that set the standard for the thousands to come in the 1940’s 50’s and 60’s.

Sonny was born Earlington Tilghman on August 18, 1925 in Baltimore, Maryland.
