Isley Brothers Debut Film “It’s Your Thing”

Isley’s Debut Their Movie “It’s Your Thing”

The Isley Brothers debuted their film “It’s Your Thing” today (August 21, 1970).

“It’s Your Thing” is a film that was shot during The Isley Brothers’ performance at Yankee Stadium on June 21, 1969.

The film features guest appearances and performances by Patti Austin, The Chambers Brothers, and Johnny Maestro and The Brooklyn Bridge and numerous others.

The song “It’s Your Thing” was the source of a major beef between Motown and The Isley brothers.

The Isley’s, who had just left the label, claimed they recorded the hit song after their Motown deal expired, while Motown’s head honcho Berry Gordy felt otherwise.

Motown claimed that The Isley Brothers were under contract when “It’s Your Thing” was recorded, and the label felt it was owed a portion of the proceeds.

The legal battle over “It’s Your Thing” lasted five years, with the Isley Brothers winning the case.

“It’s Your Thing” has been sampled numerous times over the years and has sold over 5 million copies since its original release in 1969.
