The Sweet Inspirations, back-up singers to Elvis Presley, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Dusty Springfield and Jimi Hendrix, are featured in a new documentary titled “This Time.”
The film, directed by documentary filmmaker Victor Mignatti, is about six artists living on the non-glamourous, gritty side of the music industry.
“This Time” explores a world where the industry relies on a plethora of new artists anxiously waiting for a chance to reach stardom, and tells the compelling story of dedication to art and the power of music.
“This Time” features The Sweet Inspirations, as well as original Sweet Inspiration and gospel music star Cissy Houston, mother of the late Whitney Houston.
The stage production celebrates the talents, experiences, and persistent efforts of these musicians in an inspiring story, all the while revealing a battle against self-destuction and the brutal realities of the music industry.
“This Time” will screen in New York at the Quad Cinemas on August 10 and in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Noho 7 on August 24.
