Singer Ruth Brown lashed out at media reports that labeled her a Rock ‘N Roll singer on this day (June 14 1958).
The Virginia-bred singer was on tour when she blasted theater and nightclub owners, who kept labeling her a Rock ‘N Roll singer.
“Please don’t call me a Rock N’ Roller, because I’m nothing of that sort,” Ruth Brown told reporters. “Anyway that fad is on the way out and good riddance.”
Ruth Brown made the comments amidst a tense atmosphere in the music world, as Rock N’ Roll shows were being banned in cities like Boston, Newark, New Jersey, New Haven in New Britain Connecticut.
