Hal Jackson is a legendary DJ who started his career in radio in the mid 1930’s. He was born in 1915 in Charleston, South Carolina.
He started his career as the first African-American radio sports announcer. He then became the first African-American host at WINX/Washington. He also broadcast R&B and Soul music in Philadelphia, Newark, New Jersey and New York throughout the 1950’s.
Hal Jackson is still on the air on WBLS 107.5 in New York each Sunday, from 12pm-4PM.
