The FBI intercepted extortion letters written to Whitney Houston today (May 31, 1988).
The heavily redacted letters were revealed as part of a cache of documents released by the FBI, shortly after the singer’s death on February 11, 2012.
It seems that Houston and her related companies or part of three separate extortion plots, in 1988, 1992 and 1999.
The threats were so serious, that Whitney Houston interviewed with FBI agents at her New Jersey-based office for her production company, Nippy Inc.
The writer of one of the letters said he “might hurt someone with some crazy idea and not realize how stupid an idea it was until after it was done.”
In another attempt, a woman demanded $250,000 to keep details of Whitney Houston’s life private, although no criminal allegations brought against the perpetrator and it is believed that Whitney Houston paid off the extortionist.
