Singer Diana Ross was admitted to a rehab facility for drug and alcohol abuse, her representatives revealed to the press today (May 30, 2002.)
Her spokesman revealed that Diana Ross had secretly entered the Promises Rehabilitation Center in Malibu ten days earlier, to “clear up some personal issues.”
“She wants to be in great shape because she is someone who feels a sense of responsibility to her family and friends,” her spokesman Paul Bloch said.
The issues centered around Diana Ross’ drinking, although reports suggested that she may have been abusing prescription painkillers as well.
Ross, who liked to put cognac in her coffee before she walked on stage, also enjoyed poorly fleece wine after her shows.
The stint at Promises in Malibu did not seem to curb Diana Ross is drinking problem.
She was arrested seven months later in Arizona for “extreme DUI,” when officers spotted her driving down the street, the wrong way.
Later on in December, Diana Ross checked into The Canyon Ranch Health Resort in the Sonora desert in Arizona.
