ARETHA FRANKLIN LAUNCHES FIRST TOUR OF EUROPE; RECORDS LIVE ALBUM

Aretha Franklin launched her first tour of Europe today (May 7, 1968), with a concert in Paris, France.

Aretha was fresh off success of her albums I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You and Aretha Arrives, which had yielded it’s like”Respect,” “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man,” “Dr. Feelgood,” “I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You),” and “Baby I Love You.”

On this day, Aretha performed in Paris, France, at the famed Olympia Theater.

Her label, Atlantic Records, also took the time to record her live album Aretha in Paris.

Aretha, who had been recovering from a shattered left elbow from a fall the previous year, went on to successfully tour France, Germany, London, The Netherlands, Sweden and other European cities.
