Motown Announces Acquisition Of First Broadway Play, ‘Pippin’

Motown Records announced it had acquired its first Broadway musical in its 11 year history today (June 10th, 1972).

The label acquire the rights to “The Adventures of Pippin” from veteran producer Stuart Ostrow.

Motown made a sizable investment in the show and published the music from the Broadway musical via it’s publishing company Jobete Music.

The show would open later that year in October, in New York on Broadway.
