South African radio stations may have banned Stevie Wonder’s music today (March 26, 1985), but that did not stop the singer from his protesting the government over their treatment of blacks in the country.

Stevie had already been arrested outside a protest in front of the South African Embassy in Washington, D.C., and the ban only upped the ante for the singer.

In addition to releasing his protest song “It’s Wrong (Apartheid)” in 1985, Stevie dropped a gem titled “Dark & Lovely” protesting South Africa’s treatment of blacks.
