Smokey Robinson and The Miracles released their hit single “Ooo Baby Baby,” today (March 5, 1965).

The track was co-written by Smokey Robinson and Miracles member Pete Moore and features the instrumentation of The Funk Brothers.

“Ooo Baby Baby” hit #4 on the charts, and quickly became one of The Miracles standard songs.

The Miracles featured Smokey Robinson, Pete Moore, Ronnie White, Claudette Rogers and her cousin, Bobby Rogers.

The group first hit the charts for Berry Gordy’s new Tamla label with the song “Bad Girl.”

The following year, The Miracles would enter into pop history with the song “Shop Around,” which was not only the first #1 single for the group, but for also for Berry Gordy’s Tamla label.

In 1965, The Miracles released their groundbreaking album Going To a Go-Go, which included four Top 10 singles: “Tracks of My Tears,” “Going to a Go-Go,” “My Girl Has Gone” and “Ooo Baby Baby.”

Sadly, group member Bobby Rogers died this past Sunday (March 3, 2013), at his home in Detroit.

Rogers, 73, was sick for several years and missed The Miracles induction ceremony into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.

“Another soldier in my life has fallen. Bobby Rogers was my brother and a really good friend,” Smokey Robinson told RareSoul.com in a statement. “He and I were born on the exact same day in the same hospital in Detroit. I am really going to miss him. I loved him very much.”
