R & B singer Walter Jackson was born today (March 19) in Pensacola, Florida.

He moved to Detroit at an early age, where he contracted polio and was left on crutches.

According to Chicago Soul, Walter Jackson was in a group named The Velvetones in Detroit, which released one record titled “Stars of Wonder.”

After no success, Jackson went solo and performed in a variety of clubs including the Twenty Grand.

It was during one of these one nighters that he was discovered by legendary Chicago producer Carl Davis.

The pair immediately went to work, but Jackson would not find success for two years, when he finally hit with the Curtis Mayfield penned single “It’s All Over.”
